Privacy Statement

This statement explains how publicinformation.ie handles personal data. The platform is operated by an individual, Dave Anderson, on a non-commercial and best-effort basis.

Who is responsible for your data

For the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the data controller is the operator of this site, Dave Anderson, reachable at dave@publicinformation.ie.

What data we collect

  • When you create an account and submit a request, we collect your name and email address.
  • Your name and the text of your requests are published on this site, as required for Freedom of Information. This is a core function of the service and the legal basis for publishing it.
  • Records released by public bodies may contain personal data. Where a record includes personal information that should not be published, we will act on reports via the Report a problem with a published record page.
  • We use technical cookies and session data needed for the site to work, and we keep standard server logs.

Who we share data with

Published requests and responses are visible to everyone on the internet. We use hosting and infrastructure providers to run the site, and email services to send you notifications about your requests. We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not use advertising.

How long we keep data

Account data is kept while your account is active. Published FOI correspondence is kept for the public record, consistent with the purpose of the service.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you have rights to access, rectify, and in some circumstances erase your personal data, and to object to or restrict its processing. Because requests are published as public records, some of these rights are limited by the nature of the service. To exercise your rights, contact dave@publicinformation.ie. You also have the right to complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission.
